CALC - Cumbria Association of Local Councils
The Cumbria Association of Local Councils (CALC) is run by local councils for the benefit of local councils. It aims to assist councils in their day-to-day work and to represent their interests. CALC has an Executive Committee which is responsible for the overall direction of the Association and handling county-wide issues. There are also five District Associations which liaise with the County and District Councils and become involved in more local matters of interest to local councils. CALC is a member of the Lake District National Park Partnership whose vision for the National Park is that it will be "An inspirational example of sustainable development in action". Provides a wide range of services and benefits to its members, including:
- Advice on procedural, financial and legal matters;
- Expert legal and other services from the National Association of Local Councils in London;
- A monthly 'County Circular' containing the latest news and information;
- A range of publications about local council practice, including the 'Good Council Guide';
- A comprehensive conference, seminar and training programme;
- Post training information packs for councillors and clerks;
- A 'voice' for local councils on Cumbrian decision making and advisory bodies;
- Networking with other local councils to share experience and good practice;
- Access to the 'Members Only' part of the CALC web site;
- And - most importantly - essential support in times of unexpected difficulty.
