How to Register for a CPALC Account

Who can register for CPALC membership and a free subscription?

Anyone - the CPALC members website is open to and intended for all residents, members of community groups, parish and town councillors and clerks.

Registration Requirements...mt_ignore:kate

  • No passphrase is required. A passphrase is only used to disable new registrations whilst the site is being maintained,
  • You have a valid email address,
  • Your browser is the latest version, javascript and cookies are enabled,
  • You are NOT already a registered site user.

Self Registration Overview...

  1. We use a registration process comprising 5 steps,
  2. It is important that you complete each step in order as the steps display question base on previous responses,
  3. The only required or mandatory information is on Step 1,
  4. Depending upon your choices in Step 1 other questions may become visible,
  5. At the end of each step is a next button please use these to move through the registration process,
  6. Some steps are blank depending upon your earlier registration responses, This is intentional,
  7. Other steps contain fields which have been completed with default information, you may alter any of this information from the drop down options provided,
  8. The information you provide determines which default social networking groups you join,
  9. When all steps have been completed Click on SAVE
  10. You will be sent an activation email confirming your username and password
  11. The activation email contains a link to the site which you MUST click on inorder to enable your account. If you do not click on the link you cannot access the site
  12. To login enter your username then your password then press enter and the members are will be displayed

Completing the Basic Registration Screen (Step 1)  

  1. Enter your first name i.e. forename,
  2. Choose the privacy setting the default that it will be visible on your profile - you may change the privacy setting at any time,
  3. Enter your username i.e. your name (forename OR Initials Surname) max 25 characters + the 4 character code you were given
  4. There MUST be a space between your Surname and the 4 character code
  5. Please note - accounts with incorrect usernames are deleted
  6. Enter you current valid email address (if your email address is invalid you will not be able to access the site)
  7. Choose your own password and enter it in the first box
  8. Re-enter your own password in the "verify password" box
  9. The password must agree with that entered in the first box
  10. You must select a country from the drop down box, this determines what questions are displayed next
  11. Complete the additional fields displayed using the choices from the drop down boxes
  12. Click "NEXT" to be taken to the step 2

Completing the additional registration steps

  1. You are automatically registered with a Free Subscription
  2. Click "NEXT" to be taken to the step 3
  3. If more fields are displayed add any extra information for your profile if you wish
  4. Click "NEXT" to be taken to the step 4
  5. Add any extra information for your profile if you wish
  6. Click "NEXT" to be taken to the step 4

Completing the final step (Step 5)

  1. You must enter the security code - this prevents automated software from registering and protects the site,
  2. Read and accept or decline the terms and conditions
  3. Click on "Register" to complete the registration process

Common Registration Issues...

  1. Your email address must be unique and not already in use on the site

What Happens next...

  1. Have successfully completed the registration steps you are immediately sent an activation email
  2. Ensure that your spam filters allow emails from CPALC.ORG.UK
  3. Note - if using your employers email address the activation email may be validly blocked
  4. You CANNOT login without receiving the activation email
  5. Follow the instructions in the email to activate your new account

An Active Account...

  1. Having clicked on the link in the activation email your browser will open and and you will be advised that you may now login

How To Login...

Having activated your account you can now login to the members area...

  1. Enter your USERNAME or EMAIL ADDRESS in the box marked username
  2. Enter your password in the box TITTLED "Password"
  3. Check "Remember Me" - this will allow you to login automatically each time you visit the site - please note this will not work if you have only enabled what are known as session cookies
  4. Please note that if you are using IE6 or earlier the login boxes may not be correctly displayed
  5. If javascript or cookies are NOT enabled the site is unlikely to work properly
  6. After logging into the site you are automatically taken to your profile so that you can check your messages and contacts
