Q: How do I resign as a Parish Councillor?

A: You must resign in writing i.e. a signed letter. You cannot resign by email. You should address the letter to the clerk of your council as the clerk must advise the local returning officer in-order that the process to elect a replacement councillor can be put in process. Your Parish Council Chairman should be copied in to the letter for politeness.

Your resignation cannot be refused and is effective immediately.
