Q: I disagree with the Parish Council giving money to the village hall. Is it right for them to use my council tax for this?

A: The Parish Council does have the legal power to support village halls and other community buildings, and most see it as a fair use of public funds although they will usually apply conditions on any grant they make. The Parish Council is the custodian of public funds and should have an agreed procedure in place for funding voluntary bodies within the parish.
