In January 2013 the External Auditor for Gosfield Parish Council issued a Public Interest Report. Such reports are rarely, if ever good news for either the councils concerned or their residents. In the report the external auditor states that the assurances made by the council...

“are not supported by the evidence available to me. I am concerned that the Council may therefore have provided assurances to the public that it was not in a position to provide.”

Of greater concern are the statements that...

“the Council has been unable to provide explanations for significant variances between its income and expenditure in 2011/12 compared with 2010/11;”

and

“the Council has been unable to provide a reconciliation evidencing agreement of the Council’s financial records to the amounts held in its bank accounts and in cash;”
