  • Internet Explorer is NO LONGER SUPPORTED as it has been replaced by EDGE
  • OPERA is NOT supported

It is not practical for us to test or support browsers on mobile phones.

Important - Modern Browsers

  • Modern browsers deliver faster web browsing by caching or storing web pages previously visited by you
  • The amount of stored content and  the length of time pages visited are stored depends upon the memory in your computer and the configuration of your web browser

It is worth noting that Google Chrome is particularly aggressive in its use of caching technology

  • Google Chrome also stores and tries to auto-fill your login details for any website with which you are registered
  • This is both good and bad
  • Providing you make NO typing errors these features tend to work seamlessly
  • However if you mistype your details your browser will usually remember the wrong or incorrect details
  • These may then be used for the length of time your browser stores information or until your browser needs to clear and release memory

If you are repeatedly blocked there are some things you can do...

  • Set your browser to clear its cache whenever you close the browser (This should also be done for web security)
  • Clear your browser cache, close the browser and restart your computer
  • Try logging in with a different browser i.e. if you usually use Google Chrome try FireFox
  • We find that FireFox is generally much better behaved and more reliable than Chrome

Password Auto-fill Login problems

  • The Google Chrome browser may ignore the "autofill off" command and may input the wrong password
  • This problem MAY also occur with Apple's Safari browser and FireFox
  • This is a known problem with some releases of the Chrome browser and FireFox
  • Requesting a new password will not fix the problem as the wrong password is stored in your browser
  • Your browser password auto-fill overwrites what you enter

IT IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE CPALC WEBSITE

What to do if you have a problem logging in...

  • Try updating to the latest version of Google Chrome
  • Clear the autofilled password from your browser
  • Then manually enter your password
  • Clear stored cookies
  • ONLY use "session" cookies

Please note we cannot fix this problem as it is caused by 3rd party software i.e. the Google Chrome Browser

Turn Off Chrome Auto-fill

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. In the top right, click the icon you see: Menu or More
  3. Click Settings Show advanced settings
  4. Under "Passwords and forms," uncheck "Enable Autofill to fill out web forms in a single click."

Turn Off Firefox Auto-fill

If you don't want Firefox to remember what you've entered into form fields, you can turn off the auto form fill feature:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Preferences
  2. Select the Privacy panel
  3. In the drop-down menu next to Firefox will:, choose Use custom settings for history
  4. Remove the check mark next to Remember search and form history
  5. Close the about:preferences page. Any changes you've made will automatically be saved

Disabling form history also prevents Firefox from storing search history for the Search bar in the Navigation Toolbar

How do I know that I'm logged in?

  • If you are not logged you will see the empty email and password login boxes together with the Lost Password and Register text
  • If you are logged in your username will be shown together with any private messages, View Profile and Edit Profile

I am registered but cannot login!

  • First, check your registered email address and password
  • The password is case sensitive, ensure that "Caps Lock" is not on
  • You were sent an e-mail, containing your username and password
  • You must activate your account by clicking on the link enclosed in the email
  • If you did not receive an e-mail, you may have provided an incorrect e-mail address or the e-mail may have been picked up by a spam filter
  • Please check your spam filters on your computer AND the settings on your email providers webmail account
  • Use the "Lost Password" feature, this is on every page after the login boxes
  • Enter your REGISTERED email address, this email address will be validated against the email address recorded within the site
  • If your email address agrees with that recorded you will be emailed a new password which replaces any previous password
  • You may update your email address providing that it meets the minimum requirements and does not contain reserved words
  • It is your responsibility to keep your details up to-date
  • If the email address does not agree with that recorded an error message will be displayed

In addition please check...

  • Uppercase O is very similar to 0 (zero) check that you are entering the correct character
  • As you will appreciate the clarity of 0 and O depends on the font you have set up in your browser
  • If in doubt use the "Lost Password" feature to get a new password
  • There is no limit to the number of times you can ask for a new password
  • That cookies or session cookies are enabled in your browser
  • If you do not do this there is nowhere for your password to be stored whilst accessing the site
  • You will login and then be logged out as soon as you view another page
  • Please refer to your browsers documentation for help setting cookies or session cookies

  • When this happens you need to refresh your browser and log back in again

What happens if we share a membership?

  • This THEFT, when detected such accounts are closed without notice or refund

Is my password case sensitive?

  • Yes, you must enter your password exactly as supplied or as you created it
  • Please ensure that capitals are not on

Can I automatically login to the site?

  • This feature has been discontinued as many modern browsers now have password management features
  • In our opinion this is a much better way for users to login and control access to the members area of any website
  • All members should ensure that they have a record of their password
  • It is important that members email address is up-to-date
  • The "Remember Me" functionality depended upon a cookie being set on the user's computer
  • This worked inconsistently as it was dependant upon how the browser had been configured to handle either session or permanent cookies
  • It is now down to you the user to choose how you manage your passwords

I login but get logged out as soon as I click on anything!

  • Your work network administer has probably blocked access to non work related websites
  • They also may block disposable email accounts such as, Hotmail, Live, Yahoo, Gmail etc
  • If you can access the CPALC website at home and you need access to the site for work you will need to contact your work system administrator
